Yay or nay ?
I test drove an automatic turbo ats and an automatic A3 Quattro.
So far the Audi is leading but I have an appointment to drive the manual Caddy.
Why do I want to get rid of the ST ?
No good reason, it’s a good car but it’s been two years and I want something new.
I’m not losing any money in the trade-in, except normal depreciation (7.5k over 2 years)
I also tested the Audi a3 quattro with the teknik pack

Go for it. Although I’ve heard some Oppoauts (I.E. Ben Rolland) complaining about rear legroom.

YAY ABSOLUTELY.
This isn’t even a comparison, man. What the ATS may lose in spriteliness to the ST, it will make up for in comfort and livability in spades .

It's not my first choice in the lineup (quite cramped for my tastes) but it's still miles better than the competition thanks to my extreme bias.

Honestly my biggest holdup is interior room. My car doubles as my office, and I'm quite a big guy, so I like a big airy cabin. For someone with normal proportions, it’s fine. My brother has a ‘14 2.5 AT, and even in the base form, it’s still quite sprightly.

ATS. Just got a 2.0T coupe and loving every second of driving it.
You may want to test out the infotainment though. The voice commands in the ATS aren’t the best for me.

Why are you cross-shopping the A3 with the ATS? I was under the impression that the ATS is a 3-Series and A4 competitor. I think once you climb into the backs of both you’ll pick the ATS.

I have other cars to try as well, including the 228 but it's a coupe and I have two kids. That may potentially be a poor idea.

That's what I think, but the it's a compact sedan and we already have an F30, feels a bit like the same car.

Yes, in theory, but pricewise (including incentives) the ATS is more in line with the A3, at least here in Canada

Good luck finding a 6MT ATS...they are out there but super rare...and if you want Mag-Ride forget it. Also...for the same price take a CPO 3 series for a spin. The ATS is good...but not quite 3 series good.

Oh you have little ones...yeah definitely try a CPO 3. Back seat room is much better than the ATS/A3

But the A3 is a cheap version of an expensive Golf. Why would anyone choose a smaller less well equipped car for the same price?

It was nice, maybe it was the trim level but it felt more upscale than the ATS

Well, Audi does know how to put together interiors so that makes sense. The only thing I don’t like about the ATS (having never been in one) is the single exit exhaust for the base engine. It looks silly where it exits the rear bumper.

I like the idea of an American car with a 6MT. Also, have you thought most recent 5 series? Not American, but I’ll bet pieces of it are ....
